Following the appeal of many artists, including Björk, the state broadcaster RÚV has announced that Iceland will not take part in the 2026 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Iceland is the fifth country to join the boycott over Israel’s inclusion in the annual competition, following the decisions of Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Slovenia.

The chair of the executive body, Stefán Eiríksson, stated: "Given the public debate in this country and the reactions to the EBU’s decision last week, it is clear that there will be neither joy nor harmony surrounding RÚV’s participation in Eurovision. It is therefore RÚV’s conclusion to inform the EBU today that RÚV will not take part in Eurovision next year."
